Questions about Travel Insurance

1.Emergency assistance when you need it

Emergency Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you need assistance while in Australia please call 02 8895 0699.

2.Why can't over 70's insure online?

Travel insurance is a complex product. As there are a number of cover limitations for people over 70 years of age, we believe we can better service your needs by discussing your specific requirements. Please call us or visit your nearest HBF branch

3.Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

You can apply to have your Pre-Existing Medical Condition covered by us.  In most cases we can assess your application for Pre-Existing Medical Condition over the phone or online without the need to fill out any forms or to see your doctor.

There are some pre-existing medical conditions that we will cover you for automatically, provided you have no other related pre-existing medical conditions.  You will need to refer to the Travel Insurance Product Disclosure Statement for information on the Pre-Existing Medical Conditions that we automatically cover.

4.Why do I need Travel Insurance?

Travel Insurance covers you and your family during holidays for a variety of insured events.  You may need to cancel your journey, the personal belongings that you are carrying could be lost, stolen or damaged, and most importantly an overseas medical emergency could occur.  HBF have an international support network for you to call on in the event of an emergency to assist you 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

5.Are my children covered on my policy?

Cover for your dependent children (up to the age of 21) is automatically included in either our Single or Doubles cover.  You need to advise us of how many children need cover so we may list them on your policy.

6.How do I work out which travel plan to select?

Expand

When completing a quote for Travel Insurance you will be asked where you are travelling to. The travel plan applicable will then be automatically selected based on this information. 7.Does my travel policy cover all my luggage and personal belongings?

Your luggage is covered under your policy but your claim may be refused if you do not take all reasonable precautions to protect your luggage.  This means ensuring that you do not leave it unsupervised and taking all necessary steps to avoid any loss or damage.  It is important to note that individual item and policy limits may apply so please refer to the HBF Travel PDS for full terms and conditions and item/policy limits.

8.Do I have to pay an excess if I make a claim under my travel policy?

Yes, there is an excess of $100 for all claims.

9.Who do I contact in the event of an emergency?

HBF employ the services of First Assistance to provide 24/7 support to HBF policyholders prior and during your journey. First Assistance can help with your preparation for your journey with pre-travel assistance information such as essential contacts, visa information and vaccination recommendations.

When travelling they’re also there to assist with emergency medical assistance, lost luggage and document assistance, emergency travel and accommodation services, legal referrals and emergency message transmission to relatives.

10.I am currently overseas and have no insurance – can I still take out your policy?

No. Our policies must be purchased before you depart on your journey from Australia and cover you from when you leave your normal place of residence in Australia until you return to that point of origin in Australia.

11.If I return home earlier than planned, can I get a partial refund on my travel insurance?

Expand

Yes, HBF Travel Insurance includes an early return refund if you return home early. A refund of the unused premium may be available as long as there are no claims made on the policy and your early return is not linked to a claim.

12.In what instance will my premium be refunded?

If you advise us within 21 days of receiving your policy that you are not satisfied with it, you have not made a claim and you have not started your journey, we will refund your premium in full.

If you cancel after the 21 day cooling off period you can cancel the policy at any time for a refund of the unused premium, less the applicable administration fee.  Please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement for details.

13.Extending Your Policy

We are happy to extend your international cover, however you must do this before your original policy ends.

To do so, call us to arrange for your policy to be extended. We will not provide cover on an extension for any pre-existing medical or dental condition.

14.Terms and Conditions
