Hospital Excesses

HBF Excess is a simple and effective way to reduce your health cover premiums without reducing your HBF benefits. If you require a hospital stay, you pay the agreed excess, and only pay it once per person in any calendar year, no matter how many times you are hospitalised.

Two excess options are available:

1. $140 per person up to a maximum of $280 per family membership per calendar year (available to Top and Intermediate Hospital members).
2. $250 per person up to a maximum of $500 per family membership per calendar year (available Top Hospital members only).

Please note that the excess is payable in addition to any accommodation and theatre fee co-payments that may apply and you won't be required to pay an excess for any dependant children on your family policy. From time to time, HBF may make available other excess levels.
