Overseas Visitors Cover

If you’re a temporary resident or visitor to Australia, you can have the confidence of knowing that you’re in a country with one of the world's finest health systems. However, medical treatment does come at a cost. With HBF Overseas Visitors cover, you’re protected should you require treatment in or out of hospital.

Medicare

If you're visiting Australia from Italy, United Kingdom, Malta, New Zealand, Finland, The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway or the Republic of  Ireland, you may be eligible for some health cover under Medicare in Australia, but only for emergency treatment as a public patient. You would be responsible for paying the costs of treatment in a private hospital, or for treatment as a private patient in a public hospital, including the costs of all medical services provided.

If you are a visitor from any other country, you are not eligible for health cover under Medicare in Australia. If you should require medical treatment in Australia, you will be responsible for all costs incurred.

HBF Health Insurance cover options

Overseas visitors to Australia can select from two types of HBF health insurance cover.

• Hospital and medical cover - protection for treatment in a private or public hospital.
• Essentials cover - for the more every-day services like dental or physiotherapy.

Please note that Overseas Visitors Cover premiums will be subject to GST from 1 July 2008.
