We began in Western Australia in 1941. But now, hospitals, doctors and specialists all around Australia are covered. So as an HBF member, you can access the best in health care wherever you are.
In fact, if you need treatment in any Australian hospital, you’ll be covered for accommodation and theatre fees less any co-payments and agreed excess. (Just remember that all benefits are subject to any waiting periods, exclusions or restrictions that apply to your level of cover.)
Before arranging a hospital stay, it’s always a good idea to get a quote from your doctor or specialist and contact us to see how much will be covered by your HBF health insurance.
Wherever you are in Australia, you’ll be able to claim the same set benefits for dental, optical, physio and other Essentials services from any provider, and will have exactly the same annual claims maximums.
One small difference is that, because of the vast number of dentists, optical stores, and physios around Australia, some providers may not yet be registered for electronic claiming with us. See below on How to Claim if you can’t use your HBF card for electronic claiming at the provider.
The cost of ambulance transport varies for each state. The good news is that you’re covered Australia-wide. Outside of WA, HBF members get unlimited cover for urgent road ambulance transport to hospital emergency departments for treatment.
As different states have different medical costs, your premiums are likely to be different depending on which state you’re living in. Our rates are very competitive and are often lower on average than other funds outside of WA.
Just like in WA, you should be able to claim for Essentials services on-the-spot (just swipe your HBF card and only pay the difference); however there are still some providers that aren’t yet registered with us for electronic claiming. If you visit an Essentials provider where you can’t claim on the spot by swiping your member card, get them to call 1800 620 133 to register with us, so you’ll be able to use on-the-spot claiming next time you visit them.
For Hospital and Essentials claims, you can claim online via myHBF.
Of course, you can always claim by mail. Just download a claim form, complete it and then mail it along with the provider’s invoice and your receipt to; HBF, GPO Box S1440, Perth WA 6809.
If you claim online or by mail, your benefit will be paid to you by direct credit to your nominated bank account or by cheque.
