HBF Home Hospital

There’s No Place Like Home with ‘HBF Home Hospital’

HBF is here to offer our members a more personalised health service with choices – choice of doctor and choice of hospital. In keeping with this, we have recently formed a partnership with Silver Chain to pilot a Home Hospital program for HBF members. ‘HBF Home Hospital’ gives qualifying HBF members the choice to receive private hospital level care in the comfort and privacy of their own home.

What is Home Hospital?

Home Hospital, Hospital in the Home (HITH), and Hospital Substitution are all terms used to describe clinically appropriate care that is provided in a residential setting, where appropriate, for patients who would otherwise require hospitalisation. Patients in a Home Hospital program receive the same treatment that they would have received had they been in an inpatient hospital bed, however are able to remain at home.

Who is suitable for Home Hospital?

‘HBF Home Hospital’ is suitable for patients that are clinically stable, require 24 hour medical governance, and are in need of treatment for less severe medical conditions such as urinary tract and respiratory infections, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolisms and cellulitis.

Why choose treatment in the home?

To help with a smooth recovery, we will also provide you with a pantry pack of easily prepared meals and two hours of home care assistance to assist with cleaning, clothes washing, meal preparation and shopping.

How can you receive treatment at home?

A decision to receive hospital treatment in the home is one that will need to be made between you and your GP or specialist. Your doctor will assess your condition to ensure you’re medically stable and once they are satisfied you are suitable you will then be admitted to the program.

During the admission your doctor will continue to oversee your progress and treatment and a registered nurse will monitor your condition and administer medication. Once you’ve completed your treatment your doctor will assess you again and formally discharge you, just like a hospital.

If you have a need of a hospitalisation for a less severe medical condition requiring for instance IV antibiotics or re-hydration therapy, then ask your GP or specialist if you can stay out of hospital and receive care at home!

If you’re a health care professional who would normally refer privately insured patients to a private hospital, call Silver Chain Home Hospital for more details on (08) 9242 0242.
