Sign up as a corporate client employee
If your employer has a corporate partnership with us, you can sign up over the phone, in a branch or by email. If you’re tight on time, book a branch appointment or request a callback to suit your schedule.
We’ll work with you to make sure you’ve picked the right cover for your health needs and explain what you need to know about your new level of cover, including your eligible corporate offers and any waiting periods you may need to serve.
Leave the paperwork to us
If you’re switching from another fund, we’ll contact your current health insurer to organise a clearance certificate and make sure any waiting periods served and extras limits usage are carried over.
Note: It may take up to 14 days for other funds to issue a clearance certificate. Your clearance certificate (sometimes known as a transfer certificate), serves as a record of your health cover and contains information about the type and level of cover you held, when you joined, and when you cancelled. We will not be able to finalise any claims submitted until a certificate has been received and assessed.

Things you should know about switching to HBF
Waiting periods when you switch
If you switch to HBF within two months of leaving another Australian health fund, you won’t have to re-serve any waiting periods that you have already served with your previous insurer. For waiting periods that have been partly served, you’ll only have to serve the remainder of the waiting period before being eligible to claim benefits. Waiting periods will apply for any new services you were not covered for previously, for any higher benefits and/or higher annual limits, and if you decrease your hospital cover excess level.
Annual limits on extras cover
Any claims you have made with your previous fund this calendar year will result in an adjustment of the annual limit you can claim with us for the rest of the year. For example, if you have claimed $300 on Occupational Therapy with your current fund and you join HBF on Top 70, which has an annual limit of $400, you may be able to claim $100 with us this calendar year. Remember, most annual limits reset on 1 January each year.
If your new HBF cover has a service with a lifetime limit, we will take into account all claims you have made for that service previously, regardless of the year they were made.
30 day cooling off period
If you change your mind, you can cancel your new cover or return to your previous cover with our 30 day cooling off period. Just make note of the below:
- If you cancel your new hospital or extras cover during the first 30 days of holding that cover, you will receive a full refund for any premiums paid.
- If you choose to move back to your previous level of cover during the first 30 days of holding the higher level of cover, you will receive a refund for the difference in premiums paid (if your new level of cover is higher and you have not made any claims in that time).
