HBF expects record payout from storm damage

HBF is expecting a record number of claims following the storms that pounded the Perth metropolitan area last night.

HBF has doubled the number of people taking calls from those affected, but HBF’s
General Insurance General Manager, Steve Hollow, is encouraging HBF members to
email rather than phone.

“Like other insurers we’ve had record number of calls from members wanting to claim
against their home or vehicle policy.

“The good news for HBF members is that flood damage is routinely included in our
standard home and car insurance policies,” Steve said.

“We’ve doubled the number of HBF staff taking calls but inevitably many people are
experiencing delays. Rather than ringing us we’re asking members to email us on
giclaims@hbf.com.au with your name, telephone number, member number and brief
details of your claim. We’ll get back to you by phone as soon as possible.”

HBF is prioritising its claims to ensure that those from people in the greatest need are
looked after first.

“If your claim isn’t urgent, please email us and wait a few days before phoning to give
those with urgent claims the chance to be helped first.” Steve said.

HBF expects to make record payouts for repairs to car windscreens and home windows
and already the insurer’s nominated glazing suppliers are operating at full capacity. HBF is
encouraging members to locate their own supplier and arrange for repairs to broken
windows and windscreens themselves, rather than wait until they have lodged a claim.

“Basically, we want to make it as easy as possible for our members to claim against their
policy. After all this is why they took out insurance in the first place” Steve Hollow said.
