Thousands of Western Australians will be running for a reason in HBF’s inaugural event, scheduled for Sunday 23 May, 2010.
As part of the pre-event excitement HBF will be hosting a Participant Pack Collection Marquee in the heart of Forrest Chase to assist participants to prepare for the walk/run and encourage others to join in the steps to better health.
Free health checks, consisting of blood pressure, cholesterol, height, weight and BMI checks and, importantly, information about how to target key health areas will be available in the marquee as well as event pack collection, healthy snacks and a Brooks shoe display:
Wednesday 19th May – 8am – 2pm
Thursday 20th May – 8am – 2pm
Friday 21st May – 8am – 2pm
Saturday 22nd May – 9am – 4pm
Late registrations can also be made at the marquee for walking, running, jogging or strolling in this all-ages community event in either the Act-Belong-Commit 4.5km run/walk or the more challenging 14km Act-Belong-Commit course next Sunday. Both will start and finish at the WACA.
Fundraising from the event will go towards one of the six chronic disease charity partners – Arthritis WA, Asthma Foundation WA, Cancer Council WA, Diabetes WA, Heart Foundation WA and Lifeline WA.
It’s hoped more than $200,000 will be raised for the charities.
HBF Managing Director Rob Bransby says the vision of the State’s largest health insurer is to lead the way in improving the health and well-being of all West Australians. He says when it comes to preventing and managing many chronic health issues, physical activity is absolutely crucial.
“Our new research shows that more than one million West Australians are overweight. If each of them shed just 5kg, the fat lost would actually fill 30,000 industrial barrels,” Mr Bransby said at the recent launch of HBF Run for a Reason.
