As of 1 July 2021, HBF no longer offers general insurance products.

What is changing with General Insurance at HBF?

Recently, we wrote to members who currently hold general insurance products with HBF (Home, Car, and Leisure Products).

In this letter we explained that following a thorough review, we are no longer offering general insurance products, effective 1 July 2021.

What does this mean for members with existing general insurance policies?

From 1 July 2021, Insurance Australia Limited (IAG) will provide support on all general insurance policy-related queries. This means, you can call the IAG Customer Care Centre on 1300 168 260 if you would like to make any changes or have any questions regarding your general insurance policy. Please also note that your general insurance policy is no longer visible in myHBF or the HBF App.

We are working closely with IAG to manage this change as seamlessly as possible. Please note that there is no change to HBF’s Health Insurance.

Why is HBF no longer offering general insurance?

This recent decision is designed to help focus our priorities towards private health insurance and health services for our members, staff and community. We’re already making significant progress in this space, as seen with our Pharmacy 777 alliance and the recent introduction of HBF Dental.

Even though we no longer offer general insurance products, what we stand for is still the same. We're still a not-for-profit health fund that doesn't have shareholders, and we will continue to put our members’ needs first.

Who is IAG?

Insurance Australia Group Limited (IAG) is the largest general insurance company in Australia and New Zealand. IAG provides insurance under many leading brands such as NRMA Insurance, SGIO and CGU.

HBF General Insurance products have been issued by IAG through its CGU brand since 2011.

What does this mean for my current general insurance policy?

Your current general insurance policy will continue as is with the same product benefits, terms and features until your next policy renewal.

What happens at renewal?

You won’t have to do anything different if your current policy expires before 1 November 2021. Should you choose to remain on your current policy, your HBF General Insurance policy can be renewed for a further year.

From 1 November 2021, IAG will commence sending policy renewals under the CGU or NRMA Insurance brands depending on your State or Territory.

The product benefits, terms and features may differ from your current HBF General Insurance policy. As always, please consider the PDS and check if the policy still meets your needs.

Will IAG have my HBF General Insurance claims history?

Yes, as the issuer of your current general insurance policy IAG has your claims history.

Will there be changes to the way I make my payments?

If your current payments are made via direct debit from your nominated financial institution, there will be no changes to the way you pay your general insurance policy.

If you make your payments via BPAY®, please refer to the biller code on your statement.

From 1 July 2021, please note that HBF will no longer accept payments over the phone or at HBF branches for general insurance products.

Who do I talk to if I have questions about my general insurance policy?

From 1 July 2021, IAG will provide support on all general insurance policy-related queries. Please call the IAG Customer Care Centre on 1300 168 260 if you would like to make any changes or have any questions regarding your general insurance policy. Please also note that your general insurance policy will no longer be visible in myHBF or the HBF App.

All claims-related queries will continue to be managed by IAG.

Can I still change my general insurance policy details at an HBF branch?

No, IAG will provide support on all general insurance policy-related queries. Please call the IAG Customer Care Centre on 1300 168 260 if you would like to make any changes or have any questions regarding your general insurance policy.

Can I still make claims on my existing home, car and landlord insurance?

Yes. Please call the IAG 24/7 claims number on 1300 559 867.
