Diet and nutrition cover to nourish your health

With benefits for dietitian and nutritionist visits, HBF extras cover can help you feel your best.

Why your diet and nutrition matters

Getting your diet and nutrition right can help you feel more energised, maintain a healthy weight, perform at your best, and reduce your risk of future health problems.1

But what does ‘eating right’ mean for you? Who can you trust to help you on your way to better health? That’s where the experts come in.

Nutritionists and dietitians can give you expert advice on healthy food choices and the relationship between your body, your diet and your health.

HBF extras can pay benefits towards consultations with an approved dietitian or nutritionist.

What can a dietitian or nutritionist do for you?

Both nutritionists and dietitians can advise you on healthy food choices that may help with things like:

  • Improving energy levels
  • Weight management
  • Children’s nutrition
  • Healthy eating within different dietary patterns (eg vegetarian/vegan)
  • Preventing some health problems
  • Overall vitality and wellbeing

Dietitians have additional qualifications and can give you personalised dietary advice that may help you manage health conditions such as:

  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Obesity
  • Food allergies and intolerances

A dietitian can also provide nutritional support for things like:

  • Pregnancy
  • Sports performance
  • Introducing solids to babies
  • Managing toddler food aversions

Frequently asked questions

How much can I get back?

This will depend on the level of cover you have. After you get a treatment plan from your dietitian or nutritionist with the item numbers to be provided, give us a call on 133 423 to complete a benefit quote so you know exactly what benefits you are entitled to. Please note that waiting periods and annual limits may apply.

How do I submit a claim?

Most providers give you the option to claim electronically via various participating systems. To do this, simply swipe your HBF member card when you pay and HBF will pay the provider on-the-spot. All you will need to pay is the ’gap’; this is the difference between what your dietitian or nutritionist charges and the benefit that HBF pays on your behalf.

Alternatively, you can pay the provider in full and submit your accounts and receipts to HBF by one of the following methods:
