Our most comprehensive hospital option covers almost all hospital procedures and treatments available in Australia; including joint replacements, heart procedures, cataract surgery, maternity and IVF. Ideal if you’re looking for the best hospital cover and complete peace of mind. You can reduce the cost of your premium by selecting a higher excess level.
With HBF, most of our hospital products provide cover for over 5000 medical procedures and services. When you go to hospital, you can have total peace of mind knowing HBF will help cover the cost for important treatments. These include chemotherapy, gallbladder procedures and knee or shoulder reconstructions, as well as more common procedures like endoscopies, hernia repair, tonsil removal, grommets and wisdom teeth removal.
We’ve designed our top levels of cover to include all in-patient medical procedures listed in the Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS). As the level of cover decreases, high-cost procedures only relevant at a certain life stage like maternity and IVF, cataracts, joint replacement and heart treatment are excluded to help keep the cost of your premium down. That means no matter what stage you’re at in life, you can choose a product that suits your needs.
We will honour waiting periods already served
Cataract and Eye Lens Procedures is a service that helps cover the cost of cataract surgery in hospital.
A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye, which leads to a decline in vision. The only way to correct cataracts is to undergo surgery to replace the cloudy lens with a new one. This is called an intraocular lens. It’s a relatively simple procedure that usually only takes 15-30 minutes.
Heart Treatment is a service that helps cover the costs of medically necessary hospital treatment of procedures relating to the heart.
This may include treatment for a range of conditions, including heart attacks, chest pain (angina), stroke, heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias), or heart defects you’re born with (congenital heart defects).
Joint Replacement Surgery (partial or total) is a service that helps you access surgical treatment and care by an orthopaedic surgeon.
A total joint replacement involves an orthopaedic surgeon removing a damaged joint and putting in a new one. While a partial join replacement involves an orthopaedic surgeon replacing or fixing the damaged parts of a joint.
Assisted Reproductive Services (ARS) enables couples experiencing fertility issues to achieve pregnancy by artificial or partially artificial methods. It’s more commonly known as ‘fertility treatment’.
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is a common type of ARS. It is a service that helps women achieve pregnancy with the help of medical treatment. It is used to overcome a range of fertility issues including sperm antibodies, endometriosis or unexplained infertility. Treatment is administered by a fertility specialist, who is supported by a team of nurses, counsellors and scientists.
ARS are separate from maternity, which is a service with its own inclusions and waiting period.
This is simply a definition of ARS, and not an indication of what HBF covers. For more information about what HBF covers for ARS, please see 'Things you need to know about Assisted Reproductive Services'.
Psychiatric Care is a service that helps cover the costs of inpatient care for people suffering from mental health problems.
This service provides attentive, in-hospital care for patients suffering from depression, anxiety, grief, trauma and other emotional and mental disorders.
