Eligibility for a fully covered* flu vaccination

HBF provides benefits for one fully covered flu vaccination per year for eligible members. Before receiving your flu vaccination, check the eligibility criteria below, as you must:

  • be covered for Healthy Living Programs on your Extras cover,
  • have served the 2-month waiting period,
  • be aged 5 years or above, and
  • receive your vaccination at a participating provider* (Pharmacy 777 in WA or PharmaSave Boulder Pharmacy in Kalgoorlie).

Free flu vaccinations in June

The WA Department of Health has advised that flu vaccinations will be free for all WA residents throughout June to boost vaccination rates.

This means all HBF members in WA, regardless of cover type, will be able to access a free flu vaccination in the month of June.

With the WA Department of Health reporting increases in influenza cases in WA compared to the same period in previous years, we encourage you and your loved ones to book an appointment at any Pharmacy 777 location and stay safe during this winter flu season.

Will HBF provide a benefit if I get a flu vaccination through my GP or a pharmacy other than Pharmacy 777 or PharmaSave Boulder Pharmacy?

No. In WA, HBF will only pay a benefit for a flu vaccination received at Pharmacy 777 and PharmaSave Boulder Pharmacy Kalgoorlie.

Do I need an appointment to get a flu vaccination?

Yes, you’ll need to book an appointment to get your flu vaccination.

If you’re an eligible HBF health member, you can receive a fully covered flu vaccination at Pharmacy 777 in WA. Please check Pharmacy 777’s website for the most up to date information regarding availability. 

If you’re an eligible HBF health member living in Kalgoorlie, you can call PharmaSave Boulder Pharmacy on 08 9093 1150 to book or walk-in at a time that suits you, and present your HBF member card to access a fully covered flu vaccination for the 2022 flu season. The upfront cost will be $19.95, which you can claim back in full via the HBF App, online through myHBF or at your nearest HBF branch.

When is the flu season?

The Australian Government Department of Health recommends that the period of peak influenza circulation is typically June to September in most parts of Australia.

What’s the eligibility criteria and how do I find out if I’m eligible?

You’re eligible for a fully covered flu vaccination if you meet the following criteria:
  • You’re covered for Healthy Living Programs on your Extras cover,
  • You’ve served your 2-month waiting period,
  • You’re aged 5 years or above, and
  • You received your vaccination at a participating provider* - Pharmacy 777 in WA or PharmaSave Boulder Pharmacy Kalgoorlie.

Do I need to pay for a flu vaccination?

If you’re an eligible member, your flu vaccination will be fully covered. Depending on where you get your flu vaccination, you may be able to claim on the spot through participating electronic terminals which means there will be no cost to you. If you visit PharmaSave Boulder Pharmacy in Kalgoorlie the cost to you will be $19.95 as a terminal isn’t available. You can claim back the amount in full via the HBF App, online through myHBF or at your nearest HBF branch.

Is it okay to get both a flu vaccination and a COVID-19 vaccination?

The Australian Government Department of Health advises that COVID-19 vaccines can safely and effectively be given on the same day as flu vaccines. According to the advice, it is safe to get both vaccines, and there is no need to wait between getting a COVID-19 vaccine and a flu vaccine.
