What is involved in a Friendlies MedsCheck

A comprehensive medication review with recommendations given to you on the spot.

  1. Make a booking

    Book a consultation with your local Friendlies pharmacist.

  2. Medications review

    In a private consultation room, your pharmacist will go through each medication you are taking, answer any questions you may have, ensure you know the role of each and will explain how your medications work or interact together.

  3. Action plan

    A customised medicine list is created just for you, which can be helpful for family members and your doctor. An action plan is also produced in the event there are things identified in the consult that are opportunities for improvement in your health, including referral to your doctor if required.

  4. Recommendations

    Your pharmacist will offer advice on how and when to take your medications for the best effect, as well as other smart ways to manage your medication.

FAQs about Medication Management

A MedsCheck is a one on one consultation with you and a Friendlies Pharmacist in a private room. Your pharmacist will go through each medication you are taking, answer any questions you may have, ensure you know the role of each, and will then offer advice on how and when to take your medications for the best effect.

A customised medicine list is created just for you, which can be helpful for family members and your doctor. An action plan is also produced in the event there are things identified in the consult that are opportunities for improvement in your health, including referral to your doctor if required.

The Friendlies MedsCheck is free for Medicare Card holders who:

  • Are living at home, i.e. not in a care facility and
  • Have not had a Medicare funded medication check (such as a MedsCheck, Diabetes MedsCheck or Home Medicine Review) in the last 12 months AND at least one of the below:
  • Are taking five or more prescription medicines
  • Have experienced a recent significant medical event (for example a hospital admission for a new condition such as a heart attack or stroke, or admission to hospital for worsening of an existing condition)
  • Taking a medication with a high risk of side effects

A MedsCheck takes about 45 minutes and may be claimable through Medicare.

When you’ve got a lot of medications to take, we know it can get overwhelming. Friendlies dose administration aids ensure you never get medications mixed up or miss a dose.

Your medication is packed in secure blister packs with the dose, day and time clearly printed. Blister packs can specify exact times of the day. If you haven’t opened the blister compartment, you know you haven’t taken the dose – so there’s less confusion.

If you’re an eligible HBF member, the personally prepared, safe and easy-to-use medication packing service is free. The service is only $5 a week for non-members.

Friendlies can keep your scripts on file at all times so you can manage them easily and order repeats efficiently. So if you need a standard repeat, just call your local Friendlies pharmacy and they’ll have it ready by the time you come in store.

If you’ve got repeats on your script, or are housebound, you can call your local Friendlies pharmacy to organise your scripts to be delivered straight to your door.
