HBF has a large network of Member Plus optical providers to help members minimise
out-of-pocket expenses associated with glasses and contacts.
Member Plus optical providers include: Eyebenefit, Laubman & Pank, OPSM and Specsavers.
HBF’s Member Plus optical arrangement gives members access to a wide range of fully covered glasses from the no-gap
range. If you require single vision, bifocal, multifocal or progressive lenses and you select frames from the no-gap
range, your glasses will be fully covered
up to your annual limit.

Serve any applicable waiting periods
If you are new to private health insurance, you may need to serve waiting periods. If you are changing your level of cover or switching from another fund, waiting periods may apply so please contact us before buying your glasses or contacts.
Check your benefits and limits
You can check your optical benefits and annual limits by logging into
myHBF. You can see your annual limits at any time, but you will need to know the item numbers and fees to complete a benefit quote. You can get item numbers and fees by speaking with your optometrist.
Visit an optical provider instore or online
You can pop online or into any optical store that is an HBF Approved Provider. To see if your provider is covered, call us on 133 423. You can find a Member Plus Optical Provider here.
This will depend on your cover (including any annual limits) and the glasses/contacts you choose. On all covers available for sale, you’ll get 100% of the cost of your glasses or contacts back, up to your annual limit. If your glasses or contacts cost more than the limit available on your extras cover, you’ll need to pay the difference.
With our Member Plus optical network, you can get a fully covered pair of glasses. All you need to do is choose a pair of frames from the ‘no gap range’ at a Member Plus optical store fitted with single vision, bifocal, multifocal or progressive lenses and you won’t be out of pocket at all.
You’ll generally be able to claim electronically in store. Swipe your HBF member card when you pay, and we will pay the provider directly, on the spot. All you will need to pay is the “gap”, which is the difference between what your glasses or contacts cost and the benefit that HBF pays on your behalf.
