COVID-19 payments to members
HBF is returning $42 million to members who held Hospital and/or Extras cover between 25 March 2020 and 30 June 2020.
Extras cover can help pay for sessions with a psychologist or clinical psychologist.
Hospital cover can help pay for mental health treatment while you're admitted to hospital.
Here's how it works.
Psychologists and clinical psychologists can help manage a wide range of mental health issues such as
depression, anxiety, stress, addictions and eating disorders.
A psychologist is a professional trained in the science of how people think, feel, behave and learn.
A clinical psychologist is a psychologist who has completed specialised advanced education and supervised training in mental health. They have particular skills to help solve complex problems that require more tailored treatment.
With HBF Extras, you can get covered for:
*All limits shown are per person (pp), per calendar year
unless otherwise specified on less than 1 year of continuous Extras cover.
Hospital psychiatric services can help with treatment and care for depression, eating disorders, drug and alcohol addiction and other conditions while you’re admitted to hospital.
Hospital psychiatric services help cover the cost of in-hospital treatment and care.
Sometimes this could involve a day admission – but it could involve an extended stay if you require a longer course of treatment.
Restricted cover means only the government-required minimum amount of benefits will be provided for Hospital psychiatric services. You could face large out-of-pocket costs if you claim for a service with restricted benefits.
The Mental Health Waiver allows a person with eligible hospital cover to upgrade from restricted to full benefits for Hospital psychiatric services without serving the usual 2 month waiting period.
If you have held an eligible hospital cover for 2 months with restricted benefits for Hospital psychiatric services, you can upgrade your cover so you will be fully covered for these services. If you do, HBF will waive the usual 2 month waiting period on Hospital psychiatric services
. This mental health waiver can only be used once in your lifetime – even if you cancel your cover and re-join in the future, or switch health funds.
Consult the Australian Government Department of Health for more information on the Mental Health Waiver.
