Emotional support
Care is centred around you and your family's needs.
Get access to personalised care at home just like HBF member, Bill.
To access the chemo@home program, follow these three simple steps:
Visit your specialist
Depending on your circumstance, your specialist (eg GP or oncologist) may ask you if you want to receive chemo@home instead of in-hospital services.
Get a referral
If you decide you want chemo@home, your specialist can draw up a referral.
Begin your first session
Chemo@home will process your referral and come conveniently and directly to you.
The chemo@home team of highly trained and skilled nurses can safely provide many chemotherapies, targeted therapies and immune therapies in the comfort of your own home.
You can receive treatment for most cancer types, including breast, colorectal, melanoma, gastrointestinal and lung cancer, as well as blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
You can receive infusions for chronic conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn’s Disease. Treatment is also available for colony stimulating factors, such as filgrastim (Neupogen®), pegfilgrastim (Neulasta®) or epoetin (Eprex®). Bone strengthening medications, for example zoledronic acid (Zometa®) or denosumab (Xgeva®) are available as well.
At home treatment means more convenience. You can be more relaxed during your treatment and some patients find they have less infections.
Other advantages are reduced costs for travel and parking, as well as having less reliance on carers or child care.
You won't have any gaps to pay for the cost of your treatment—this will be fully covered by HBF. However, there may be some out-of-pockets to pay for pharmacy items.
