A reciprocal health care agreement is an agreement between two countries to cover certain health care costs. If your country has a reciprocal health care agreement with Australia, you will be covered for certain health care costs while you’re in Australia, while Australians visiting your country will enjoy the same benefits. Yes. Even if you have a pre-existing condition, you will be able to buy health insurance for your stay in Australia. You will just have to have served a 12-month waiting period before you can claim on any pre-existing conditions.
It depends on whether you need to be admitted to hospital. With HBF health cover, if you need to be admitted to hospital for treatment, there is a 12-month waiting period for maternity and pre-existing conditions, and 2 months for all other services. However, if you just need outpatient medical treatment (for example, consultations with a General Practitioner or emergency ward care) there is no waiting period.
