What is the cost for participating in an HBF health support program?

The COACH Program, At Home Alcohol Detoxification, Mind Matters, CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet, Osteoarthritis Healthy Weight for Life, and GLA:D are fully covered for members who hold eligible HBF hospital cover and meet the programs’ eligibility criteria. What if I don’t have eligible hospital cover? Can I still access treatment from Esus Centre?

HBF members with hospital cover that provides restricted benefits for Hospital psychiatric services and have served the 2-month waiting period can claim for services provided by Esus Centre up to the minimum default benefit^*. However, significant out-of-pocket costs will apply. If you need assistance understanding what this means for you, please contact us on 133 423.

I’m already booked in for a joint replacement, could I still benefit from GLA:D®?

Research^~ has shown that individuals who have completed the GLA:D® program before having a total knee or hip replacement tend to recover more quickly. Provided your surgery date is booked no less than 3 months away, participation in GLA:D® may be beneficial.

I’ve had a joint replacement, could I still benefit from GLA:D®?

To promote full clinical recovery from a joint replacement procedure, it is recommended that participation in GLA:D® be avoided for 12 months following the procedure unless otherwise indicated by your treating specialist.

If you have had total joint replacements in all hips and knees, the GLA:D® program is not suitable, and your treating physiotherapist or accredited exercise physiologist is best placed to guide you on alternative exercise therapy.
