COVID-19 payments to members
HBF is returning $42 million to members who held Hospital and/or Extras cover between 25 March 2020 and 30 June 2020.
HBF offer a range of evidence-based health services and programs to help members better manage their health.
A six-month telephone health coaching program, clinically proven to help people with
chronic conditions reduce their risk factors and achieve better health outcomes.
Sessions are tailored to individual needs and goals and delivered by qualified health
professionals trained in cardiovascular rehabilitation.
Eligible members must have recently undergone a heart procedure, be 18 years or over and
have the appropriate level of hospital cover.

A care coordination program to help members with chronic health conditions navigate their
way through the healthcare system and access the care they require to better manage
their health. A dedicated care coordinator will carry out a needs assessment and develop
a personalised plan specific to the needs and goals of the member. The program aims to
empower members to better manage their health and reduce their risk of an avoidable
Eligible members must be managing a chronic health condition such as diabetes, asthma or
heart failure, be 18 years or older and have the appropriate level of hospital cover.
The program is a specialised 18-week knee and hip osteoarthritis management program
targeting multiple modifiable osteoarthritis risk factors. It is a structured,
easy-to-follow conservative treatment protocol designed to assist individuals to
optimally manage their joint pain and stiffness, assist weight control and improve the
function of affected joints. The program can also improve fitness for joint surgery and
enhance preparation for post-surgery rehabilitation (where relevant).
The member must have a current or historical diagnosis of knee or hip osteoarthritis, a
BMI of ≥ 28 kg/m2, and they must satisfy at least one of the following criteria;

Cardihab is a 6-8 week digital cardiac rehabilitation (cardiac rehab) program supporting members who’ve recently been hospitalised for a cardiac event to manage their heart health and reduce their risk of subsequent events. The program is delivered via smartphone app (SmartCR) allowing members to track and complete their cardiac rehab at a time and place that suits them and with fewer hospital visits. In addition, members receive weekly one-to-one phone calls delivered by qualified health professionals trained in cardiac rehabilitation to help them develop a tailored action plan based on an individual’s goals and priorities.
Eligible members must be living with cardiovascular disease, be 18 years or over and have the appropriate level of hospital cover.
