Until 30 June 2020, HBF members affected by Australia’s unprecedented
recent bushfires can apply for six months’ premium relief on their health insurance.
HBF Executive General Manager - Member Experience, Selina Torrance said HBF, like the millions of
Australians who have already pledged their support, wanted to provide practical relief for those impacted.
“We understand some of our members may never fully recover from the devastation they’ve experienced, but we hope this
provides one less thing for them to worry about as they begin to get back on their feet,” Ms Torrance said.
Members who receive six months’ premium relief from HBF will also be
offered the option to suspend their health insurance cover for a further 12 months.
To be eligible for the support, members must have held health insurance with HBF from 1 December 2019 and have received the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment from the Services Australia.
HBF’s broader bushfire relief support includes a $50,000 donation
to fund counselling and mental health services for frontline fire and emergency service volunteers and employees.
In addition, HBF employees are donating $25,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and
Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service through its Workplace Giving and internal fundraising activities.
For HBF members with home and car insurance, HBF is working closely with
its general insurance partner, CGU, to ensure the best possible experience for members that claim due to the fires.
