Why choose HBF Extras for physiotherapy?

There’s no need to switch physios just to get a decent benefit. With HBF Extras cover, you get generous benefits back at your choice of HBF approved providers.

This will depend on the level of cover you have. After you get a treatment plan from your physiotherapist (with the item numbers included), give us a call on 133 423 to complete a benefit quote. We’ll be able to tell you exactly what benefits you are entitled to.

Please note that waiting periods may apply.

Most physiotherapists give you the option to claim electronically via a system called HICAPS or another called Smart Health. To do this, simply swipe your HBF member card when you pay and HBF will pay the provider on-the-spot. All you will need to pay is the ‘gap‘; this is the difference between what your physiotherapy provider charges and the benefit that HBF pays to your physiotherapist on your behalf.

Alternatively, you can pay the physiotherapist upfront and submit your claim to HBF by:

To be able to claim on telehealth treatment, your extras health cover must cover you for the relevant treatment type. For example, you must have cover for Physiotherapy if you wish to claim for physiotherapy telehealth services. You also need to have satisfied any relevant waiting periods and not have reached your annual limit for the relevant treatment type for HBF benefits to be payable.

To find out if you can receive benefits for certain telehealth treatments or to check what your limits are, simply login to the HBF App, visit myHBF or call us on 133 423.

When you buy extras insurance for the first time, there will generally be a waiting period you need to serve before you can claim if you haven't had continuous cover, or if you've just upgraded to a higher level of cover.
