Following a review of our Extras products, we're making some changes to your dental benefits from 1 January 2027. We're also expanding our Member Plus network by introducing a new tier of providers called Member Plus Premium.

These changes are designed to make it easier to access dental care at reduced, or no, out-of-pocket costs when you visit a dental provider in our network. While benefits for some dental items on certain products will increase, and a new range of no gap offers will be available through dental providers in our network, the benefits payable for some dental items on certain products will reduce.

HBF members can access dental arrangements in WA, NSW, VIC, QLD and ACT only.

We're expanding our dental provider network by introducing Member Plus Premium providers. When you visit a Member Plus Premium provider, you'll have access to a range of offers that can reduce or eliminate your out-of-pocket costs for eligible dental services.

From 1 January 2027, when you visit a provider in our dental network, you'll receive percentage back benefits, giving you greater certainty about the benefit you'll receive when making a claim for eligible:

  • Preventative Dental services
  • General Restorative Dental services
  • Major Dental services
  • Implant services

Currently, Member Plus providers agree to charge no more than HBF's agreed fee schedule for Preventative Dental services.
From 1 January 2027, this fee schedule will be expanded to include the following services when treatment is provided by a Member Plus or Member Plus Premium provider. This means you will have known out-of-pocket costs, which gives you more certainty on your costs when you receive the following dental services:

  • General Restorative
  • Major Dental
  • Implants

when treatment is provided by a Member Plus or Member Plus Premium provider.

Your benefits for Preventative, General Restorative, Major Dental and Implants services at non-Member Plus providers are changing. Some benefits are increasing or decreasing, while others remain unchanged. See your product’s change summary for further details.

We're expanding the range of dental services available with no gap benefits through our dental network.

These offers apply to some of the most commonly used dental services and are designed to help reduce your out-of-pocket costs.

With these offers, HBF will pay 100% of the agreed schedule fee, subject to your annual limits and product rules.

Important things to know about no gap services

  • No gap services are not free. Claims for these services count towards your annual and policy limits.
  • Once you have used your available no gap entitlement, future claims for the same service will be paid according to your product's standard benefits.
  • You can access eligible services across multiple appointments throughout the year.
  • You do not need to claim all no gap items at the same appointment.
  • The same offers apply where an Oral Health Practitioner is participating in our dental network.
  • Benefits remain subject to your available limits, waiting periods and product rules.

Before you have treatment

We strongly recommend that you obtain a benefit quote from HBF before receiving treatment.

A benefit quote can help you understand:

  • your available limits
  • whether waiting periods apply
  • how much benefit you can claim
  • any out-of-pocket costs you may need to pay

This information can help you make informed decisions about your treatment and avoid unexpected costs.

From 1 January 2027, approved dental providers may be classified as

  • Member Plus
  • Member Plus Premium
  • Non-Member Plus (providers outside of our network)

Your benefits may differ depending on the provider you choose.

Before receiving treatment, it's important to check whether your provider is currently part of our network, even if you've visited them before. Provider participation can change at any time.

To check whether your provider is in our network, visit hbf.com.au/find-a-provider, contact us or your dental provider.

As the Member Plus Premium tier is coming into effect from 1 January 2027, you will be able to find providers with this badge on our website after 1 January 2027.

We regularly review our products and benefits to ensure they continue to provide value for members and help keep health insurance affordable.

As part of this review, we're changing some dental benefits and expanding our dental provider network by introducing Member Plus Premium providers. These changes are designed to help eligible members access dental care with lower out-of-pocket costs and greater certainty about their benefits.

The changes take effect from 1 January 2027.

Member Plus Premium is a new tier within HBF's dental provider network. When you visit a Member Plus Premium provider, you'll have access to a range of offers designed to reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs on selected dental services. Some no gap offers will only be available through Member Plus Premium providers.

From 1 January 2027, some dental benefits will increase, some will decrease and others will remain unchanged.

The changes vary depending on the dental service you receive, the provider you visit and the Extras product you hold. Please refer to your product change summary for details specific to your cover.

No. These changes do not affect your premium.

Annual limits are not changing, except for members with Prime Package Silver Plus. Please refer to your change summary for details.

Percentage back benefits mean you'll receive a set percentage of the cost of eligible dental services when you visit a provider in our dental network.

This gives you greater certainty about the benefit you'll receive when making a claim.

The dental fee schedule is the maximum fee that participating providers in our network agree to charge for certain services.

From 1 January 2027, the fee schedule will apply to more dental services when treatment is provided by a Member Plus or Member Plus Premium provider. This helps provide greater certainty about your out-of-pocket costs. The dental fee schedule will include Preventative, General Restorative, Major Dental and Implants services.

Member Plus and Member Plus Premium benefits apply when your provider charges in accordance with the agreed fee schedule. If a provider charges above the fee schedule, you may still have an out-of-pocket cost. Additionally all benefits we pay, including benefits we pay when you claim for a no gap service, will reduce your available limit. Benefits are payable up to your available annual limit so this means once your limit reduces or is depleted, you may have out-of-pocket costs even on no gap services.

No gap dental services are eligible services where HBF pays 100% of the agreed schedule fee back as your benefit, subject to your available limits and product rules.

These offers apply to selected dental services through participating providers in our network.

No. No gap means there is no out-of-pocket cost for the eligible service when it is provided in accordance with the offer conditions. However, the claim still counts towards your annual limits and any applicable policy limits.

Once you've used your available no gap entitlement, claims for the same services will be paid according to your product's standard benefits and provider arrangements.

Yes. You don't need to claim all eligible services in a single visit. Eligible no gap services can be accessed across multiple appointments throughout the calendar year, subject to your limits and product rules.

No. You can continue to receive benefits when visiting approved dental providers. However, the benefits available to you may vary depending on whether the provider is Member Plus, Member Plus Premium or outside our network. Some no gap offers are only available through Member Plus Premium providers.

Before receiving treatment, we recommend checking whether your dentist is currently part of the HBF dental network.

Provider participation can change at any time, even if you've visited the provider before. You can check by using our Find a provider tool, contacting HBF or speaking directly with your dental provider.

Your benefit may vary depending on whether your provider is Member Plus, Member Plus Premium or outside our network.

As provider participation can change, checking before treatment can help you understand the benefits available to you and avoid unexpected out-of-pocket costs.

Yes. We strongly recommend obtaining a health benefit quote before treatment. A quote can help you understand your available limits, waiting periods, benefit entitlement and any likely out-of-pocket costs.

No. Orthodontic benefits are not changing as part of these dental changes.

For many members who use providers in our dental network, the introduction of percentage back benefits, expanded fee schedules and additional no gap offers may result in lower out-of-pocket costs.

However, the impact will depend on the dental services you use, the provider you visit and the Extras product you hold. Please review your product change summary to understand how the changes may affect you personally.

Your current benefits will apply for any services you receive before 1 January 2027. We use the date you received the service on to calculate your entitlements.

Yes. You may continue to visit any approved dental provider and claim benefits in line with your cover.

However, the amount you can claim and any out-of-pocket costs you may have will depend on whether your dentist is:

  • a Member Plus provider
  • a Member Plus Premium provider, or
  • a provider outside our dental network.

From 1 January 2027, some benefits and no gap offers will only be available when you visit participating providers in our dental network, including Member Plus Premium providers.

Because provider participation can change over time, we recommend checking whether your dentist is part of our network before receiving treatment, even if you've visited them previously. You can do this using our Find a Provider tool, by contacting HBF, or by speaking directly with your dental provider.

As the Member Plus Premium tier is coming into effect from 1 January 2027, you will be able to find providers with this badge on our website after 1 January 2027.
