Research~ has shown that individuals who have completed the GLA:D® program before having a total knee or hip replacement tend to recover more quickly. Provided your surgery date is booked no less than 3 months away, participation in GLA:D® may be beneficial.

To promote full clinical recovery from a joint replacement procedure, it is recommended that participation in GLA:D® be avoided for 12 months following the procedure unless otherwise indicated by your treating specialist.

If you have had total joint replacements in all hips and knees, the GLA:D® program is not suitable, and your treating physiotherapist or accredited exercise physiologist is best placed to guide you on alternative exercise therapy.

The Stand Up to Joint Pain program has been discontinued by our delivery partner, Prima Health Solutions. We have two alternative programs to assist members managing osteoarthritis, Osteoarthritis Healthy Weight for Life and the GLA:D program. To learn more about these programs please visit Joint Pain or contact our Health Programs team.

To be eligible for the fully covered*  program you must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be currently managing osteoarthritis in your knee or hip
  • Have held hospital cover that includes cover for joint replacement for at least 2 months
  • Have not previously enrolled in the GLA:D® Program funded by HBF
  • Additional eligibility criteria may apply

If you would like to find out more about The GLA:D® Program or check your eligibility, please visit the program page, call us on 1300 886 513 or fill out our Health Support Program enquiry form.

After enrolling in the program with a participating provider, you will have a one-on-one assessment with your physiotherapist or accredited exercise physiologist. Over the next 6 weeks you will attend 12 exercise sessions (two per week), plus two education sessions. And you will finish with another one-on-one assessment with your physio to measure your progress.
